Gateshead Council announces plans to reorganise schools in Western Gateshead to establish a tertiary college on the Blaydon Comprehensive site. This leads to a drop in enrolment as the future of the school seems uncertain. |

75th Anniversary celebrations take place. Old Blaydonian Association re-established. |

School receives positive first inspection report; noting commitment of LEA to undertake refurbishment of the buildings. |

Retirement of Mr Warren. Mr Telford-Reed becomes headteacher. 85th Anniversary celebrations.Following the LEA decision to close the Sixth Form the school votes to "opt out" of LEA control. This application is refused by the incoming government following the General Election and the decision to close the school confirmed. |

School closes with a final enrolment of 250. The school buildings continue to be used for a further year as an "annexe" to Hookergate Comprehensive School. |
