THE OLD BLAYDONIAN ASSOCIATION NEEDS YOUR HELP: A call from the OBA Committee

This is directed at all Old Blaydonians, younger or older, and irrespective of whether you are members of the OBA or not.  In a nutshell, we need:-

  • New members of the Committee
  • Your ideas about the future of the· OBA, short and long term.

Why?  Well, the current membership of the OBA is dominated by ex-pupils from mainly the Grammar School era.  This generation is getting older and we need to address how we can best serve them.  There is also a generation of ex-pupils from the post-Grammar school period and though we have tried to involve them, we have not been very successful.  Granted, the web-site has provided a successful contact point but how is it to continue in the future?  What can be done to help younger OBs to maintain their contacts – assuming, of course, that such a desire exists?

How can you help?

Health problems have taken a toll of our Committee· membership and we need to bolster our numbers.  We divide our work up so that each member does not have a heavy load.  We need both younger and older OBs to join us.  So, please do so.
We need to decide on a· sustainable programme of events for current members of the OBA, that is, primarily the older group.  We will be seeking their ideas in the next issue of the annual magazine, so that we can discuss them further at the next A.G.M. in April.  So, please give us your thoughts.

Very importantly,· and looking further forward, we need to know whether younger OBs have an interest in continuing the OBA organisation – which, of course, may have a different format and activities from the current one.  We need to talk with younger OBs about this.  So, if you are interested, come forward, and if you have ideas, let us have them.
